Frequently asked
Answers to the questions families ask most
Everything parents want to know before their dancer's first class, in one place. Still stuck? We're a message away.
Enrollment
8Classes start at three, and your dancer needs to be out of diapers. Not quite three yet? Start a booking anyway and we'll ask for their birthday instead of a class, then call you when they're ready for their first one.
Registration is easy-peasy. You can register online if you're sure of the classes you're enrolling in, or you can register in person at the studio. Either way, we are excited to help your dancer begin their Ascendance Studio journey!
Absolutely, in fact we recommend it! Take a look at our schedule with your dancer and choose a class or two that spark their interest. Then, schedule your free trial and come to the studio and try it out. It won't cost a penny and you and your dancer can be sure it is a good fit. Our awesome teachers will give you feedback, make recommendations, and you can ask all the questions you want to be sure you're making the right choice.
Of course! We welcome your dancer year-round! Just remember, there is a deadline for joining a class as it pertains to when your dancer can participate in the recital. The deadline to pay recital fees in order for your child to participate in the recital is at the end of February.
Ascendance Studio's calendar runs alongside Miami-Dade County Public Schools' calendar (easy to follow, right?!) Registration begins in August and continues throughout the year. Remember, the absolute deadline to pay recital fees in order for your dancer to participate in our annual recital is by the end of February. More notifications will be sent regarding this, but it's important not to forget!
Ascendance Studio is right in the heart of Doral. Our calendar runs alongside Miami-Dade County Public Schools, so if school is out, chances are we are too. Find us on the map, swing by, and see the space for yourself. We would love to show you around!
Booking a trial is quick. Pick a class or two from our schedule, fill out our trial form, and come dance with us. The class runs one hour, and afterward your teacher will share feedback and answer every question you have. Your dancer can wear comfortable clothes they can move in with hair pulled back, no uniform needed yet. It will not cost a penny, and there is zero pressure to enroll.
We hope your dancer falls in love and stays for years, but we understand plans change. If you need to pause or withdraw, give the studio a call or stop by and we will walk you through the process so there are no surprises on your account.
Tuition & Fees
4Are you a firm believer of “set it and forget it”? Then you'll love the way we take payments monthly. Upon registering, you will be set up for auto-pay so that any credit card you safely put on file with us is charged monthly. Need to change your card? No problem. Call or swing by the studio and we can help you get the best card on file for you.
Apart from tuition, every year there is a recital fee, a costume fee (for the annual recital), and a one-time uniform fee (unless of course your child needs a new uniform for other reasons, such as outgrowing their current one, in which case that is charged separately). We often run specials for 50% off registration as well! But do not worry. You will be notified of any fees to be incurred way before they are due and will have plenty of time to make the payments accordingly.
Great question! Tuition depends on how many classes a week your dancer takes, and the more they train, the more you save per class. You will find the full breakdown, including competitive tuition and the one-time registration fee, on our Schedule & Tuition page.
We do not offer a separate sibling discount, but we keep things friendly for families: our multi-class pricing lowers the per-class rate the more your dancer trains, and we run seasonal registration specials too. Have a few little ones ready to dance? Call us and we will walk you through the best setup for your family.
Classes & Levels
8The easiest place to start is your dancer's age, since our classes are grouped by age and style. Our youngest (ages 3 to 4) start with Creative Movement and combo classes like Ballet/Tap. Ages 5 to 6 add Hip Hop, ages 7 to 9 move into Ballet, Jazz, and Hip Hop, and our 10-and-up and teen dancers can take Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Lyrical/Jazz. If a teacher has recommended a specific class, follow that. Still deciding? Book a free trial or give us a call and we will help you find the perfect fit.
Each recreational class is one hour long. More information about Ascendance Studio's Company Team can be found on our website, and be sure to check out our schedule.
Absolutely. Ascendance Studio trains dancers of every age and level, whether your dancer is five and the next Baryshnikov or seventeen with two left feet. Beginners are always welcome, and we place your dancer in a class that meets them where they are, so they build confidence from day one. The best way to start? Book a free trial and let them feel it for themselves.
#BoysDanceToo! Yes, yes, yes! We offer classes for EVERYONE. If your dancer is full of excess energy and needs a healthy outlet to express their rhythm and personality, Ascendance Studio is the place!
For one, Ascendance Studio is a great place to begin! We train dancers of all levels, ages, and experiences. If your child is on the shy side and on the fence about joining something unknown, fear not! Our YouTube page is a great place to browse our videos and content to get a taste of what it's like dancing with us. Make sure to follow us on social media as well, at @ascendancemiami on Instagram and Facebook too!
As proud as we are of our recreational program, we are equally as proud of our Company Team. Ascendance Studio's Company Team is composed of different ages and varying levels divided into our audition-only Ruby and Sapphire classes. Interested students audition during the summer, and if selected by the judges, are placed in corresponding classes and choreographic pieces that train all year long to compete at various regional and national competitions throughout the Spring season. Every dancer on our Company Team takes technique, ballet, tap, and acrobatics (acro) classes weekly, and classes are designed for those who want to kick their training and commitment up a few notches. Ascendance Studio's Company Team competes in jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, and musical theatre, plus a combination of all of them in our yearly Production or Line routine, in which all Company dancers participate. To understand the true level of dedication it takes to be an ASC Company member, just watch our dancers first-hand! Stop by the studio or call us to learn more about our Company Team.
Every dancer on the Company Team is selected by a panel of judges based on skill level, professionalism, commitment and drive, family budget, and performance, among other factors. Dancers must have previous dance experience and may be invited to audition by an Ascendance Studio teacher in their respective recreational program, if that teacher feels they may excel in the Company Team program. Dancers do not need an invitation to audition but must register for the audition, be aware of the rigor and commitment level required all year long PRIOR to auditioning, and have a growth mindset. To find out more about our Company, take a look at our website and be sure to follow us on all our social media accounts!
Life happens! If your dancer misses a class, you have 30 days from the missed date to make it up in any other class within your dancer's age group and program. Just reach out to the front desk to set it up. Regular attendance matters most as recital season approaches, since choreography is a team effort, so we always encourage making it to class when you can.
Uniform & Dress Code
3When you look good, you feel good, and a shared uniform turns each class into a team. Girls wear the Ascendance black leotard and black leggings with the dance shoes for their style, hair in a neat ponytail or bun (bun for ballet), and no jewelry. Ballerinas add pink tights under the leotard. Boys wear black shorts or pants they can move in, the Ascendance boys' t-shirt, and the matching dance shoes. Pick up the uniform at our front desk, where we will size your dancer in minutes and send them off looking the part!
The Ascendance Studio uniform can be purchased at our front desk, where your dancer will be sized according to their measurements. Most dance shoes can be purchased at Ballet Boutique. There are also other local dance stores that carry them, such as Dancing Supplies Depot. Be sure to pick up your 10% off coupon at the studio before you visit either store! Prefer to shop online? Other options include Dancewear Solutions and Discount Dance.
The best way to explain this one: you wouldn't see a professional snowboarder practicing their craft in a bathing suit, right? How about a chef taking out burning hot food with no oven mitt? NO WAY! Every craft has its requirements, and in an organized, team-oriented sport like dance it's important to wear the right clothing to keep your dancer as safe as possible, and because we hold our dancers to the highest quality of professionalism. When you look the part, you act the part, and you feel the part. It's like Batman with no cape or mask. It just doesn't make sense. Also, our logo and gear are awesome, so that's a plus.
Recitals
2Does your child appear to be having fun in class? Pay attention to their feedback about their confidence level when it comes to learning recital choreography. Some students get nervous, some get excited, but all in all they shine on stage and end up with huge smiles on their faces, wanting to do it again when it's all over! As a parent, you can make sure your child is ready by having them review their dances at home, encouraging them so they feel more confident, bringing them to class regularly with little to no absences, and being their biggest cheerleader! Attendance makes the biggest difference in most cases. Learning choreography takes hard work and a team effort. It benefits everyone, from your dancer to the teacher leading the class, to have 100% attendance as much as possible so that dancers feel ready with everything from spatial awareness to memorization to performance.
Is the sky blue? Are tequeños delicious? YES, we have annual recitals! Our annual recital is the biggest day of the year for our studio. It is the single day our dancers train all year to show their loved ones everything they've learned. We take pride in the shows we produce, and you can ask anyone who's been in our audience, we have some pretty impressive entertainment. The annual recital usually takes place in early June, and information leading up to it is always provided with plenty of notice in order to prepare not only our dancers but their parents and families as well. Dancers take the stage all dolled up in costume, and the best part is watching them shine!
Summer Camps
2Our summer camps run all summer long across nine themed weeks packed with dance, crafts, and fun. Choose a half-day or full-day camp and sign up for one week or all nine. The half-day is ideal for our littlest dancers (ages 3 to 5), but any camper can do a half day, and dancers ages 3 and up are welcome to do full days too. Staff are bilingual and background-checked, everything is 100% indoors with no field trips, and pickup is ID-verified, so you can drop off with total peace of mind!
Send your camper in comfy clothes they can move in, sneakers, a water bottle, and a labeled snack or lunch depending on their program. We take care of the rest, from the choreography to the crafts. Have a specific question about your week? Just give us a call!
About the Studio
3Versatility. Professionalism. Top-quality training. Family. These are the four qualities (out of many) that we think set us apart. For one, we take a lot of pride in our teachers and staff, as they are the ones training and teaching your children, and we believe in their training. At Ascendance Studio, you can be sure that the person leading your child's class has very specific training in that style and knows their craft. We provide the best training in each class we offer, with teachers who are passionate about the styles they teach and always striving for more. Not only are we well-versed in a variety of styles, but we consider ourselves a class act. From our recreational program to our company team, we respect one another as a family, where everyone feels at home. We take accountability for our growth and the examples we set. Most of all, we know that we represent our community and always strive to represent it best!
In such a saturated marketplace as dance, it can be difficult to feel you're making the right decision when picking what seems right for your child. Consider everything from location and distance from your home to staff credentials to affordability, and everything in between. The best advice we can give you is to discuss your options as a family and remember that loyalty is at the core of the best dance studios. Most dancers that fall in love with their dance studio stay until they graduate from high school, and it truly becomes a second home. Consider how committed and involved you want your dancer to be. Visit the studio, talk to the owners, and take a trial class in a style you're interested in. We'd love to make you part of our Ascendance family!
Besides being thoroughly vetted by our owners for talent and professionalism from all over the dance industry, we perform background checks on every teacher who joins our staff to ensure a safe and professional atmosphere. We require continuous learning and look for motivated people who love what they do and bring something new to the table. Creativity, fun, and the desire to inspire are some of the qualities we look for in our teachers.
General
2Yes! We have a camera system set up in every room so that you can comfortably watch your dancer on-screen from the lobby. Who knows? Maybe you'll pick up a move or two!
Enrolling in a dance class is a huge change for many young dancers. It is often the first time they are doing something outside of school or daycare that follows a structure and where a door separates them from their loved one. Change causes discomfort, and building trust takes time! If your toddler has an emotional reaction to dance class at first, it is completely normal. Every toddler is different, but no matter what, at Ascendance Studio we always try our absolute best to make our tiniest dancers feel safe, loved, motivated, and welcome. Our top-tier staff has experience working with all ages and varying emotional levels. The good thing is, if you give your little dancer time, they'll start to adjust and soon they won't ever want class to end! Trust us, some of our biggest criers became some of our most loved and confident superstars!
